Hello everyone:)
As you all know, I had to take a pre-sessional Academic English Course at the Metropolitan University. It was due to my failure of the entry English exam. As my course has almost finished, I would like to share my opinion about it.
Basically, whilst studying here and my home country, I have found one main difference. That is technology. In the UK, the Internet and its benefits are more developed and very helpful for the students and tutors.
Have I found anything which might caused any difficulties? No, I do not think so. I enjoyed the classes and the methods of teaching. Main point, they were not boring.
Thanks to this course my writing skills have improved. Another thing is that, I have learnt how to find in an easy way some proper academic sources via the Internet. I think this is very beneficial for me.
I can say that this course was a very good idea. I feel more comfortable about my English.
At this point of my knowledge, I think I am ready for my degree program. I feel more confident with my writing and reading skills. I am looking forward to studying at the University.
Of course for me as foreigner, first months of studying will be difficult but I have to think positive and do my best. There is one task for all of you: wish me good luck :))

online lecture

This time in my post I would like to tell you about an online lecture I watched recently. The title of the lecture was 'Kirsten Ashburn's heartrending pictures of AIDS'. The topic was focused on how that disease is contribute to killing people in Zimbabwe. Due to it, 35% of population is HIV positive. The author of the lecture, whilst staying in Zimbabwe, was invited to homes of people where she begins to understand how massive the epidemic is. There were two examples given. One was about the child and the other about the woman in pregnant who died 2 years after giving birth. Then there were pictures shown where I could see how the people live, fight with the disease but unfortunately die at the end. This lecture helped me realise how serious problem with HIV they have in Zimbabwe. It was really worth of watching. 'Internet Detective' tutorial
Welcome everyone,
In this post I would like to share my opinion and what I have learnt from 'Internet Detective' tutorial. I must admit it was really very interesting and very useful for someone, like me, who didn't know much about the tricks on how to use the Internet in finding reliable sources. Everything was explained in detail. Examples were very clear and easy to remember. In case of any doubts regarding the Internet I will always get back to this tutorial. Now, my searching skills became more develop and I feel more confident about it. Thanks to that tutorial, I know how to check if the website is a reliable source and if I can use it for my essay. Now, I know on what I have to pay my attention and what details on the website are important. I really can recommend this tutorial. Thanks to it, my online searching has become more clearly and I am able to understand more about it, which is very beneficial for me.

importance of plagiarism
Welcome everyone, in this post, I am going to tell you briefly about what the plagiarism is and how to avoid it. We could say that plagiarism is a stealing somebody's words, opinions and using them as they were our own, without changing anything. At the University it is undoubtedly unacceptable. Unfortunately many of students do not remember about that rule. Avoiding plagiarism is not that difficult as we might think. There four easy steps, first one is to plan your essay in advance. Second step is about sources details, we need to always remember that we have all our sources details. The third step is about making proper note taking and finally the last one is telling us that the references must be taken correctly. Whilst writing the essay sometimes we need to put the references at the end. This is a very important aspect, that is why references must be correct.

benefits of library

As you already know I am about to start my University in February. From the 5th of January I have started an Academic English Course on Metropolitan University. This is a full time 1 month course. I am doing it to improve my written skills as well as some grammar and speaking. The tutors are very qualified and experienced which is very beneficial for 'us' students. It is very good for foreigner students. Back to the subject, I have to write an essay. The main subject is Globalisation. As I have chosen to study English language, I need to write about the effects as well as positives on to my filed. Where can I get the sources which help me with my subject? That was my first question I asked myself. The advices we got from the tutor were really very helpful. Firstly, I started with the Internet. I found plenty of articles. Secondly, we were introduced with the Metropolitan library and how everything works. Searching for books or journals was quite easy. Typing the word Globalisation gives you hundreds of books with this topic. They are or about the Globalisation, explaining the subject or linked with other issues, like economy, communication, sociology, business etc. You can find the titles of the books, how many pages the have and the location where they are available, for example Holloway Road, Moorgate etc. Everything is very easy to use. You can get the same informations from home as well. There is an online service available as well which is really very beneficial for the students. What you need to do ii to write down the author, the whole title, and the barcode. With those details you just simply go and borrow it. It is very good solution. Hope those materials can be useful for you.

My subject
Welcome back everyone.
I would like to tell you briefly about my main subject which is taken at the London Metropolitan University from February. The name of it is 'Applied Translation'. Those are a linguistic studies. Obviously, for all of you they can associate with translations. That is a good direction. After getting a degree, I will be able to work as a translator or an English teacher.
Why have I chosen that subject? As you know from my previous post, I have always been enjoying learning English language. That is my main reason. Studying at the University and then receiving a proper qualifications will help me to get a job in this direction. Everyone wish to do what they really enjoy in future. That could be very positive in our lives. The studies contains speaking, reading, listening, writing and grammar. It is about understanding a foreign language, teaches you how to think and respond in other language.
Personally, I think that is a very interesting subject to study about. In my opinion, it is something amazing that we can learn how to speak in other laguages. Of course it takes time but it is worth it.

About me
I was born in Poland in 1983. Since I remember, was always fascinated with foreign languages. I was around 7 or 8 years old when I started my firts English classes. Despite being so young, barely could speak or write in my mother language, I enjoyed learning English more than anything else. Believe me or not, I can still remember first words I was thought. I know, must be surprising for you. During the primary and the secondary schools, I was mainly focused on English language. It was something I really enjoyed doing. That was one of the main reasons why I choose to study English as a foreign language as my subject, at the University.
After a while, I decided to came to London. You ask 'why?' That is a very good question, must confess. I always wanted to go to the country where English is the main language, simply to try my knowledge, get some experience in life, see if can handle all the small and big problems by myself, far from my family. Of course it was very difficult at the begining, I suppose for everyone. Time runs very fast, as you all know. I have been living in London for the past 4 years. Still enjoying it, believe it or not. I have decided to improve my skills, knowledge to do something I can be proud of in the nearest future. I applied to the University, in London, if anyone doubts where. What subject? Applied translation. English - Polish, of course.
